AA® Tribe Talks: Shauna on creativity, inspiration and embracing life's next chapter
Meet Shauna, a Gold Coast-based designer and nail artist in her season of exploration, always learning something new. Her latest obsession is inspired by her Japanese heritage: the art of tea making, which she has been practising as a way to stay connected to her family and culture.
As a creative, Shauna is constantly seeking new ways to express herself, from small canvases to larger ones, with the American Apparel® 1301 Heavyweight T-shirt being one of them. Her style is minimal, intentional, and often centred around a single statement piece. It's finished with treasured jewellery inherited from her grandmother, adding a personal touch that makes every outfit uniquely her own.
Inspired by everything from travel and people to nature and music, Shauna continues to nurture her creativity as she steps into a new chapter of her life.

You describe yourself as someone who is always learning. What are you currently curious about or exploring?
I’ve been exploring more of my Japanese culture, trying to stay connected and learn as much as I can. My grandma and great grandma were tea masters, so I'm currently learning this to stay connected with my grandma and also my culture.
What drew you to design and nail art, and what do you love most about those creative outlets?
I love creating across all kinds of mediums. There’s something really fulfilling about helping people see things differently or bringing an idea to life. For nails, it’s the smallest canvas I get to work on. It’s challenging, but it’s such a personal way for someone to express themselves that I get to help create.
How does living on the Gold Coast influence your creativity and lifestyle? Are there any local spots you find yourself returning to for inspiration, coffee, or a reset?
Being surrounded by nature keeps me really grounded. It’s a constant reset, especially when you spend so much time on a screen.
You’re a Virgo. What are Virgos like?
Well… Beyoncé.
Travel, people, nature, and music all inspire you. Can you share a recent moment or something that sparked a creative idea?
I've just moved, so I’m really inspired to create a space that feels like me and be intentional with every piece I bring in. Friends’ recommendations and things I’ve been discovering have opened up a whole new world of being inspired by objects.
What does your ideal weekend look like?
Outside in the sun, good company, good food.
Your go-to American Apparel® basic is the 1301 Heavyweight Tee. What's your favourite way to style a simple tee?
It’s the perfect grab and go top, paired with everything. A great layer piece for cooler weather too.
Are there any fashion rules you always follow (or intentionally break)?
Baggy pants with a fitted top. I always come back to it.
Jewellery seems to be an important part of your look. Do any of your pieces have a special story or meaning behind them?
All of my jewellery belonged to my grandma. She had incredible taste. Everything has been gifted or passed down, which makes me cherish each piece even more.
