AA® Tribe Talks: Nick on timeless fashion, self-expression, and life after uni

Meet Nick, a Brisbane-based content creator and recent urban and environmental planning graduate with a style rooted in effortless ’90s vibes. Inspired by The Fresh Prince, A Tribe Called Quest and Denzel Washington, his approach to fashion and life is relaxed, intentional and grounded in staying true to himself.

Between early-morning runs, work and creating content, Nick focuses on documenting life as it happens rather than interrupting it. His wardrobe follows the same philosophy: timeless, versatile pieces he can wear on repeat, with the American Apparel® Crewneck Sweatshirt at the centre of it all.

Now that uni is behind him, Nick is looking forward to building a career in urban planning while continuing to grow as a creator, travel more and tell better stories. For him, this next chapter is about embracing new opportunities without forgetting to slow down and appreciate where he is.

You described your style as “90’s Fresh Prince.” Apart from Yo Home to Bel-Air, what’s a song that perfectly matches your vibe?

I’d probably have to say “Can I Kick It?” by A Tribe Called Quest. It has that effortless ‘90s energy, laid back, confident and timeless. It’s the kind of vibe I naturally gravitate towards, both in fashion and everyday life.

Which Denzel inspires you, and why?

Definitely Denzel Washington. His discipline, humility and consistency really inspire me. I admire how he’s stayed true to himself throughout his career and always speaks about purpose, faith and putting in the work when no one’s watching. That’s something I try to carry into my own life.

What does a typical day look like for you, especially when balancing content creation with your day job?

Most days start early with a run or gym session before work. I recently finished my Bachelor of Urban and Environmental Planning, so over the last few years I’ve been balancing uni, work and content creation all at once. I usually shoot content before or after work, edit in the evenings, and try to capture moments naturally instead of forcing them. For me, creating content is about documenting life rather than interrupting it.

What are some of your favourite spots in Brissie?

I’d have to say:
James Street for fashion, coffee and just walking around.
Howard Smith Wharves for catching up with mates.
New Farm Park when I want to unwind.
South Bank for a walk along the river.
Honestly though, I’m just as happy grabbing a coffee after a morning run.

What’s one item in your wardrobe you couldn’t live without?

A heavyweight crewneck. It’s one of those pieces that works with everything, whether I’m dressing it up or keeping it casual. Simple, comfortable and timeless.

The American Apparel® Crewneck Sweatshirt is your staple. What do you love most about it?

The fit, without a doubt. It has that perfect oversized silhouette without feeling sloppy. It’s comfortable enough to wear every day but still looks elevated, which is exactly what I look for in wardrobe staples.

Describe your fashion sense in three words.

Timeless. Relaxed. Intentional.

As a baggy-clothes enthusiast, what would you do if you were teleported to a planet where everyone only wore skinny jeans and fitted tops?

I’d probably start the first oversized movement. Style has always been about expressing yourself, so I’d stay true to what feels authentic and hopefully convert a few people along the way.

“You only live once.” Carpe Diem. How do you put that mindset into practice?

For me, it’s about saying yes to opportunities that help me grow. Whether that’s travelling, creating content, meeting new people or trying something outside my comfort zone, I don’t want to fear making decisions for myself. At the same time, I’ve learnt that making the most of life isn’t always about moving faster, it can also mean slowing down enough to appreciate where you are.
